About
My Practice Yoga's Story
From My Practice Yoga Owner, Nicole Galvan:
"In 2014 I was inspired by an assignment in yoga teacher training to create a 'sacred space' to practice yoga at home. That assignment was always difficult for me (and still is!) because I rescue and foster dogs with all sorts of issues - blind, deaf, behavioral issues, etc. When I get on the floor to practice at home, it's doggy play time, not yoga time! My small townhome also has limited wall space to do a lot of wall poses I'd like to practice. So practicing yoga at home has never been as relaxing or productive as I would like it to be.
I always drove by other yoga studios and wished they would let me practice there on my own, whenever I wanted.
Then, I realized from teaching yoga online through the pandemic that I was not the only one with challenges practicing at home! I peered into my student’s homes via Zoom and noticed their practice spaces were sometimes a bit too small for certain poses, or they were often getting interrupted by their significant others, roommates, pets, children, or parents.
Since it has always been my goal to encourage my students to be independent yogis who practiced on their own, I wanted to create a space for myself and my yoga community to be able to develop a personal yoga practice.
So I made a business plan, got a website, and the whole thing remained a pipe dream until I finally found a space where I could afford to get this idea off the ground!
This entire business is self-funded by me - a Hispanic, female, small business owner!
And now it’s real and I’m excited to share it with you!"
